DESCRIPTION

The Environmental Studies Institute is an educational and research unit of Drexel University that brings together traditionally separate disciplines, creating an atmosphere in which faculty from different departments with research interests in environmental engineering and science can work collaboratively. The Institute maintains research facilities in the Abbotts Building at 31st and Chestnut Streets on the eastern edge of the Drexel University campus, including over 22,000 square feet of laboratory space.

The research strengths of the Institute lie in the areas of water and waste water treatment, hazardous waste and soil re- mediation, water resource management and air pollution control. Faculty disciplines contributing to these broad areas of research include atmospheric chemistry and physics, bioscience and biotechnology, civil engineering, chemical engineering, ecology, environmental chemistry, engineering geology, geo- technical engineering, engineering geology, hydrology, mathematics, and mechanical engineering.
