DESCRIPTION

Our Mission is to serve the water resource needs of the public and conserve, protect, develop, and maximize the beneficial use of the state's present and future water supplies. We are a water resources administration and engineering organization.

SERVICE AND ACTIVITIES

1. Dam Safety. We have a significant program to review plans for construction and safety of dams, and to regularly inspect all dams of any significant size for safety. We exercise both administrative and legal remedies when necessary to maintain dams in safe condition to impound water, and thereby ensure the safety of the public and property from dam failures. 2. Water Administration. We deliver water to holders of Colorado water rights, in order of priority, when water is physically and legally available to their water right. 3. Water Well Permitting. We analyze applications for permits to construct water wells and use ground water, so as to protect vested water rights, and to maximize the beneficial use of both tributary and non-tributary groundwater. 4. Water Records. We maintain official records of actions we take to provide the services described above, and provide those records to anyone who wishes to see and use them.
